About Eddie Byun

Eddie grew up in Hoffman Estates (a suburb of Chicago) and studied Speech Communication at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. While in undergrad, he received his calling into pastoral ministry and upon graduation, studied at Regent College in Vancouver for his Masters of Divinity (M. Div) degree. After graduating from Regent in 1998, he began his full-time pastoral ministry and taught at Handong Global University in Pohang, South Korea. During those 3 years there, he met his beautiful wife Hyun, got married, and God led them to Sydney, Australia where he founded New Life Worship in 2002. What was expected to be just a 1 year stop-over in the land Down Under, turned into almost 7 years of seeing the Korean-Australians of Sydney set on fire for God. While in Australia, Eddie also completed his Doctorate of Ministry (D. Min) in Preaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. In 2008, God led Eddie back to Korea to be the Lead Pastor of Onnuri English Ministry (OEM) where he served for 7 years. While in Korea, he also planted a new church called Crossway Mission Church, taught practical theology at Torch Trinity Graduate University, and fought for the freedom of the enslaved through HOPE Be Restored. He is author of the 2014 IVP Reader's Choice Award Winner Justice Awakening and most recently wrote the book Praying for Your Pastor: How Your Prayer Support is Their Life Support. He is also the executive producer of Save My Seoul, which is a documentary on sex trafficking in South Korea. Save My Seoul won "Best Documentary" at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival. Currently, he is the missions and teaching pastor at Venture Christian Church in Los Gatos, CA.
Family

Eddie is married to his lovely wife Hyun and has a beautiful daughter (Princess Emma) who is with the Lord in heaven. Princess Emma (Emmanuel) Lee Byun lived for 95 glorious days (October 21, 2009 - January 23, 2010) and taught Eddie some of the greatest lessons about life, faith, suffering and hope. He credits Princess Emma to transforming his life of prayer and fasting. Eddie and Hyun look forward to the day when they will see their beautiful daughter again in the glorious presence of Jesus. And on December 21, 2011, God brought great joy and deep restoration with the birth of their son, Enoch Justus Byun. Both Eddie and Hyun are so thankful for those who have kept them and their family in prayer for all these years.
