2015 will be my sabbatical year, so I will not be preaching on a weekly basis. But I will be speaking at various events and I'll post those sermons if they are available for media viewing.

But for now, I will be archiving some of my older sermons that I haven't been able to post before.

Recent uploads are the Jonah series I did in 2009. You can view them by clicking here.

Thanks for your support and please keep me in prayer during my sabbatical. I hope to rest, read, write my next book(s), and seek the Lord's direction for my next ministry steps.

UPDATE:

I've finished uploading the 1 Samuel Series. You can view them here.

UPDATE 2:

I've uploaded most of the Revelation Series as well. You can view them here.

Thought you might be on holiday.
Didn't know it would be that long though !...Just wanted to let you know ... you are being missed already... even by some at the bottom of the world!

Have a great sabbatical... in His presence.

Well I don’t know about others but boy I am sure struggling having to cope with cold turkey off my weekly dose of a bodacious beautiful blessed Byun bible based banquet.

So for those of you needing a fix here are some reflections over the Onurri years,

My 10 favourite Byun-isms are:

10. God ‘hit us ‘ whether we are ready or not, with a new wave of your spirit with a new wave of your love.

9. Wholy yours and holy before you

8. God may you and you today and always be our ‘one thing’

7.Holy spirit do some house cleaning today.

6. Run with reckless abandon to take risks of faith and to jump the Grand Canyon into your arms of love that will hold us again and again.

5. God may we not be content with the motel or hotel we are living n at the moment.

4. [Eddie] that is so not me if I posted a verse on Facebook half my friends might think someone hacked my account.

3. Father we declare that we crawl under your wings today

2. Lord open my eyes and expand our minds capacity to understand wonder.

And although I could easily list another 50 Byun-isms I shall stop at my most favourite…
…here it is
1. God forgive us for treading so carelessly under your mighty waterfalls!

Most wonder-filled moment……the day when Eddie had to dedicate a baby and it cried and cried but when placed in Eddie’s arms it immediately stopped crying….the congregation gasped in awe!

Most funny joke ….i liked the one about converting the bears!

Favourite series...the one from Samual.
Series that was too advanced for me...the revelation one.
Favourite anagram....P_R_A_Y_E_R_S but A_B_C was great too.

Loved the dec 13 Christmas sermon Santa vs Christ.

Thankyou Pastor Eddie for your love for God has made me love God more too….I have even just recently written my own very first prayer..based on the Byun template. And I thought writing these things were only for pastors.
Hows this for a Byun style statement ...
’God open my eyes to the illusion of permanence’

Anyone got a favourite Byun-ism to share...lets not forget this one:
God forgive me for not going
For not sending
For not praying
And for not caring
and forgive me for being ok with that.

Hey only 10 months and 1 week to go!

Wishing you P_R_A_Y_E_R_S

One week has gone and not one person has taken up my challenge to table a Byun-ism.

Holy Jonah for some reason I didn’t catch the end of the service for Eddies last sermon at OEM. I just went back and checked it out…. I get the picture.
From someone who lives in cgntv-land the silence is deafening so I am not holding back in honoring such a faith-fulI and faith-filled choice creation of God.

There are many things I love about Pastor Eddie …here are just 7.

1. Eddie has put the language of metaphor back in the church and I thank him and honor him for it.

2. Eddie has impressed upon me/’shaken me to awaken me out of my slumber’ to the importance of getting on mission for God.

3. Eddie has taught/modelled the divine beauty of honoring others. (Why is it we wait for people to die before we give them flowers?)

4. Eddie stirs the emotions constructing bridges in places where others fear to build.

5. Eddie loves Calvinists and Arminians equally (2 kings 10:15).

6. Eddie taught me how to take scripture and prayer it ... this was not taught per se but rather caught.

7. Eddie loves the imago Dei and hates seeing it insulted and assaulted.

12 Beautiful Byun-isms are :
..............................................

12. Lets shower them with our prayers

11. Heaven is not the default place

10. Let’s use our words as God intended and that is to speak to him before we speak to one another , speak to him after we speak to one another.

9. Drop your slave tools people and put away your resumes you have been holding onto.

8. The reason the world sees the church as irrelevant is because the people of God see the word of God as irrelevant to their lives.

7. God you are more than able to turn any mess of ours into a masterpiece of your redemptive grace

6. God forgive us if we have come here distracted by things that we think are too big for you to handle

5. Receive our worship as a sweet fragrance to your throne

4. Fall into the hands that hold you they are the very hands that will mold you

3. Teach us to pray so that we would not give up… after 5 seconds!

2. God cancel all prolonged spiritual vacations, and

It’s a tie for first place being
1. The best is yet to come, and
1. When people remember my life God, I want them to remember you!

More meanderings…through the Byun countryside:

Most interesting/revealing stats….the one on biblical literacy. God helps those who help themselves …oh boy!

Most favourite baptism …all of them!

Favourite sermon illustrations
1. Paco- forgiveness
2. Silversmith-suffering
3. Patrick Morley – regrets survey
4. Alligators in the pool –faith
5. Icecream and child – grace
6. Jonah - should have been Korean then seaweed no problem.
7. Koreans on bus – perspectives
8. 10 reasons why my pastor doesn’t go to sports games

Most similar unfortunate relateable experience ….buying and eating out of date kimbab and resulting manifestations!

3 Most favourite ‘person illustrations’
1. Moody
2. Jackie Robinson, and
3. Frank Jenner …amazing!

Favourite prayer for another ….the one for Francis Chan but I also was moved by the ones for Steve and Gordon….and the visiting sister from focus on the family....actually to be honest ...all 7 years worth !

Most surprising moment ….one Sunday I was driving home from church and thought I would just pop into the local school in suburban Auckland where a small korean congregation meet to my surprise I saw the Onnuri freedom Sunday worship leader Brian Kim I said hello, after when driving home I realized I just shook the hand that has shaken the hand!

Question: What’s Eddies favourite Psalm?
Answer: I reckon he has two favourites …Psalm 8 and Psalm 84. But I have a feeling he is also very fond of Psalm 23! But then I could be wrong!

After 7 amazing years on behalf of CGNTV viewers thanks for picking us up and taking us for a spin in the throne room of God. Thanks for being a warm fire in winter, a lighthouse in the darkness an arrow pointing us to God…. a voice for the voiceless...opening our eyes to behold a greater depth of our falleness and of Gods greatness....and to set our feet to dancing in the golden fields of grace once again.

Lets run into his Gods arms lets jump into his arms today knowing that he will catch us but he will not only catch you he wants to hold you ….

Phil 1:3 (And no …no-one has hacked my account !)

Anyone got a favourite Byun-ism to share ??? Hello!

Perhaps today the word of God, the message, the sermon was Abigail for you!

Sarangheyyo in the Lord Pastor Eddie.

Sorry just cant help myself.

12 Classic Byun-isms are:

Note: Extra for experts one is not a Byun-ism can you tell the odd one out.

1. Happy wife happy life……..Hold onto your wife to save your life.

2. Do not entertain demonic thoughts or demonic daydreams of wishing you were single or with someone else. DO NOT entertain those demonic thoughts.

3. God we pray that this year would be a love letter back to you in all we say think and do.

4. God may we make the name of Jesus look good this year.

5. God give me a generous heart that would forgive in generous ways

6. Pray against a heart that would seek isolation.

7. Do not go into neutral for the rest of your spiritual life.

8. Despite old Adam getting drowned in the waters of baptism …he is still a mighty good swimmer.

9. God awaken this sleeping giant called the church

10. God with snow blanketing this nation God we thankyou for the visual reminder that because of the blood of Christ our sins are now whiter than snow.

11. God we hold onto your neck and we trust that you will carry us home.

12. To your name we praise, in your name we pray.

More reflections in a Q & A format

Question: What book do you think Eddie should write next?
Answer: I would love him to do a kind of meditations and prayers from the Psalms book and illustrate it with his own shots of wonderful nature and beautiful Korean scenery photos. Just a thought. I know I would pay money for that.

Question : Do you think Eddie has a favourite verse, if so what’s your guess?
Answer: Psalm 90: 12

Question: Hey kiwi do you have a favourite prayer?
Answer: No I loved the whole 7 years worth but if I had to pick 6 amazing ones that dropped me to my knees in repentance and worship they would be
1. Jer 23: 5-6; 22/12/13,
2. Psalm 8; 13/7/14,
3. Psalm 29; 17/8/08,
4. Psalm 23; 30 /8/09,
5. Psalm 27; 23/11/14.
6. Psalm 98; 19/8/12

I just loved the communion prayers also and also the benedictions …all of them.

Question: What has been your favourite day of the week for the last 7 years?
Answer: Wednesday. Because that’s when the previous Sunday service is uploaded to cgntv

Question: Do you have a favourite non Byun sermon.
Answer: The one on prayer in 2011 by Mike, and the one on the Swedish (?) boat that sank by Gordon.

Question: Any favourite non- Byun-isms
Answer:
‘The best way to learn Korean is to date one’ ……..Mike-ism
‘He [Eddie] is just phenomenal’ ….Liz-ism

Finally;
Question: Is Eddie coming back to Onnuri?
Answer: What do you think?

God you are worthy of our trust ...for you are trust-worthy!

God open my eyes to see the church how you see it ...as something worth dying for!

Just wanted to make a small correction to an above statement …replace ‘warm fire in winter’ with ‘massive ginormous blaze in winter’. Also I think Eddie-isms is a more friendly term …anyway bit late now for a name change…

Question: Kiwi, why do you think Eddies favourite verse is Psalm 90:12.
Answer: Good question. Six reasons and they are 30/9/08, 4/11/08, 16/8/09, 11/7/10, 16/12/13 and finally wisdom is an underlying theme from ‘Investing wisely for eternity’ to ‘Honouring Christ on Christmas’ From ants, rock badgers, locusts and lizards through Ecclesiastes and foot and eye surgery while not wasting our suffering and learning to fear the Lord all on the way to ‘a glimpse into heaven’. Yep actually on further reflection now that I think about it …tell the house I am doubling down on Psalm 90: 12 !

12 Stunning Byun-isms are:

1. Honor God with your mind.

2. God is shaping Christ in me …through this situation.

3. God give me patience when I drive and when I am with difficult people.

4. If your heart is cold plead for new passions from God

5. If your heart is not moved by the missions work we are doing then try putting some of your money into these areas.

6. Because of [name of fellow Christian] I am a step closer to God and several steps of wanting to love God so much more. (Audio was difficult to hear on this sentence but I think I got it).

7. Pray for the Pastors in your life and throughout your life.

8. Prepare your life well and God will use you well

9. Hold a grudge …doubt the judge

10. Joy and purpose in life is not found in hoarding more bottle-tops …in your bank account!

11. Do not waste your suffering!

12.
”If you have been focusing and comparing yourself to others let us turn away from the virus that can kill and destroy your heart. “ E.B. 20 /9/09.

I must say sometimes a Byun-ism sits/lingers with me for months and though it came in late in the game it has been a game changer very similar to 10 secs in overtime left, the clock is counting down …but … MJ has the ball!
As the game closed out a slam dunk stunner came in … no net ... and it is growing on me more and more ... it is number 10 above from the beautiful Byun-isms. I should have placed it in the stunner list as well…

“May we use our words as God intended and that is to speak to him before we speak to one another, speak to him after we speak to one another.” I reckon this should be in the bible!

This reminded me of another bible deserving statement from S Covey who said “Most people do not listen with the intent to understand , they listen with the intent to reply”. This also reminded me of Eddies great sermon on ‘presence’ honouring others and those mobile phones!!

And what better place is there to finish than by how we began … with the stunner quoted by Eddie referencing Ken Hughes, “The Christian mind is impossible without the discipline of refusal” (5/8/08).

Favourite non- Byun joke: Lisa Park; 3 kids discussing fathers occupations. Just Brilliant!

1. 7 yrs ago I had no idea who John Piper was but noticed that sometimes Eddie quoted him. I thought who is this guy so I tried to google him but all I could remember was his surname started with p and I …google came up with John Pinette. Wow! What an amazing find that was (The greatest comedian of all time imho). I then went on to discover Tim Hawkins but eventually found John Piper. Thanks Pastor Eddie for introducing me to John Pinette, Tim Hawkins and John Piper. Myself and two others at church have now been into scripture memorization for the last couple of years.

2. 7 yrs ago I had no idea regarding the content and beauty of the Psalms. Just recently I was actually getting to a stage where sometimes I didn’t need google to help me find where stuff was coming from.

3. 7 yrs ago I thought missions were for people trying to bludge cheap/subsidized holidays! Oh boy did I have a lot to learn.

4. 7 yrs ago I had no idea who M Oh was or D Batstone.

5. 7 yrs ago I had no idea that a preaching legend had been living across the ditch in that that country West of us!

6. 7 yrs ago I had no idea that 7 of the biggest (and bestest) churches in the world were in Seoul.

7. 7 yrs ago I had never heard ‘live your life for an audience of one.’ My worldview lens has taken a major paradigm shift.

Holy Spirit forgive me for totally ignoring your promptings, correction, rebuke and even encouragement not for years …but for decades!

This is my last post.

7.5 years ago I decided I would no longer have my emotions choreographed by nonsense so I threw out the TV. I wondered how I would spend my evenings…no prizes for guessing that one.

Just realised I got a time frame wrong for an above statement what I thought was said in Nov 14 was actually said in Nov 13. Somehow I kinda think only 2 people noticed.

I am really missing my weekly Eddie led bible based google treasure hunt. (A phenomenon that can only be experienced by those in cgntv-land as on site it may not be socially acceptable!).

Two verses I loved learning, but not limited to two alone, were,
1. We are ‘the apple of [Gods] eye’. When Eddie said this I thought that can’t possibly be in the bible but I googled it and sure enough it was …amazing . Psalm 17: 8; 31/8/14

2. Another amazing verse was ‘wash our hands in innocence’ Sure enough it is in the bible Psalm 73: 13. (Can’t for the life of me track down the day this one came in... from memory I thought it was early 2013).

Two unique and delightful prayers I loved were
1. Psalm 67, 23 /6/14. Let all the peoples praise you... NZ and Australia?
2. 24/3/13 …Triggering the senses...’you walked upon the dust of the streets, touching the face of a child, feeling the breeze, walking on waters…

15 Delightful Byun-isms. [insert mine]

1. A safe community of grace

2. …this ‘Community of faith’. [ What a delightfully wonderful expression, i love it]

3. The nation ‘to the north of us’.

4. Teach us how to be lovers of God today

5. Be a mighty wall of fire surrounding this place

6. Hold onto Him today and when necessary be held by him

7. May we not hinder your work by our lack of faith

8. In terms of how you work to save people in my family God forgive me for thinking that you can’t.

9. God we love them but we know that you love them more

10. God forgive us for treasuring the dust of this world

11. God we want to take your invitation today and return to you

12. How you treat your wife is how God will treat your prayers. [Unfortunately my wife is lost and hasn’t bothered yet to stop and ask for directions !]

13. We give you thanks that there is always grace available for us and we give you thanks because you are worthy of it! (13/1/13)

14. Forgive us for wanting to be somewhere else, wanting to be in the past, waiting to be in the future. (14/4/13)

15. Let’s finish the mission and go home.

Wee suggestion ..there is a sermon library by date and topic and that is great. What about an opening prayer library by psalm? For they are a sermon in and of themselves. Just a thought. No pressure. After taking notes for about half an hour I know I can put my pen down and relax because the sermon is about to start.

Why I love Korea:
1. Koreans love God and I am trying to love God more too.
2. Koreans love badminton and so do i
3. Koreans love singing and so do i.
4. Koreans love healthy food and so do i
5. Koreans support two sports teams ... Korea and anyone playing Japan. After being informed I now support 2 teams too- NZ and anyone playing Australia ...oops... i mean Japan.
6. Koreans are the most handsomely and beautifully dressed people in the world. So much so I reckon if you invited a Korean fishing he would turn up in a suit!
7. I reckon God gave the genius gene to korean people.

I am going to finish up with my postings/reflections/celebrations now. .
25 years ago I heard a prayer spoken in a church and it did what Eddie does …triggered an immediate scrambling for a pen and paper. Unfortunatley I didn’t find a pen so when I got home I only remembered about 6 words. Never forgot them. Just this last week I thought …hey what if …so I googled it and found it immediately it is found in ‘Gods Trombones’ written in 1927,

And now, O Lord, this man of God,
Who breaks the bread of life this morning --
Shadow him in the hollow of your hand,
And keep him out of the gunshot of the devil.
Take him, Lord -- this morning --
Wash him with hyssop inside and out,
Hang him up and drain him dry of sin.
Nail his ear to the doorpost of wisdom.
And make his words sledge hammers of truth --
Beating on the iron heart of sin.
Lord God, this morning --
Put his eye to the telescope of eternity,
And let him look upon the paper walls of time.
Lord, turpentine his imagination,
Put perpetual motion in his arms,
Fill him full of the dynamite of your power,

Thank you just so much for the God's word that you delivered to your flock. I am pretty bad at writing emotional but Imma try. Love you Pastor Eddie, saw you through your thicks and through your thins, through your highs and your deep lows. You were, are and will be a great mirror of Christ's light to me and God's people. You were a cracked mirror, with scars and smudges but you are human and can't blame you for that. Thank you again for all the wisdom. Love you sir, will be praying for you. Hope to see you in Korea or Amsterdam is you wanna guest speak at Hillsong Amsterdam :D. Am I allowed to leave a smiley face?
God Bless,

Wow I went to Outstanding Earlier Ministry to enjoy some worship and a 2008 sermon as you do ...and I cant believe what I am not seeing, haven't been in for a while, but the whole lot has been vapourized ! GONE ! Vanished !
All I can say is the Outstanding Earlier Ministry has done a disservice to the viewing audience.

Thanks for saving some here.
